Video game sales totaled $6.5 billion in 2000, down from $6.9 billion in 1999, according to a report this week from the Port Washington, N.Y., firm, which tracks video game sales. Volume sales rose just 1 percent to 191.4 million units.

Analysts have called 2000 a transition year for the industry amid the U.S. introduction of the latest models of video game consoles, beginning with Sony's (6758.T) limited sales of the PlayStation 2 last October.
