Let me start out by saying that the creators of Ultima Online, EverQuest, and Asheron's Call all deserve credit for helping set the foundation for a climate that graphical MMORPGs have the potential to thrive in. However, the way each of these three games have "matured" makes them fall far short of their potential. We all know EverQuest and Ultima Online are both sporting healthy player bases, but their respective development houses are alienating a lot of potential customers with the direction they've taken with their games. In this editorial I hope to point out a few of problems these titles suffer from, and suggest a few ways to make them a bit more interesting.
