This next episode is set in the 23rd century, shortly after the independence war (that provided the action for the first game), the New Alliance has been over-stretched and duped by big business. The adoption of a laissez-faire corporate attitude has rung the death knell of democracy and self-determination, and the practice of slavery has reared its ugly head. Piracy is commonplace and the solar system is not as safe as it used to be.
