Whenever you have more than five visitors over it will be considered a party. The new objects are specifically designed to support large groups of Sims interacting one another. And any time you get that many Sims together in a house sparks are likely to fly. The amount of interesting behavior that emerges when a few extra people stop by is amazing, especially when you include some of the new objects.
