MS nicht am Handheld Markt interessiert

Wie Peter Moore, weltweiter Game Content Präsident bei Microsoft, auf der Game Developers Conference bekannt gab, werde Microsoft nicht in den mobilen Konsolenmarkt einsteigen. Damit bleibt die Konkurrenz seitens MS gegenüber dem PSP von Sony und dem GBA SP von Nintendo aus.

Dennoch bleibt der mobile Markt lebhaft. Nokia plant eine überarbeitete Version des N-Gage und Sony Ericsson will mit einem neuen Handy einsteigen, das erweitere Spielfunktionen hat.

Hier ein Auszug aus dem Statement von Moore:

”It's not our core competency. For us [the mobile market] is all about providing software solutions. This is a tough business if you're a handset manufacturer - ask the Motorolas, the Nokias and the Ericssons of this world and our competence is in making the usage of these [devices] much easier for the user. And so, we're not in the business of building mobile hardware. Really, the only piece of hardware that the company has ever really got behind, of course, would be the Xbox. There are some instances where we've looked at things, but no, it's about software for us."
